Head of the Government of Buenos Aires City, Jorge Macri, has announced that public transport in the city will be free for passengers paying with a VISA Débito card issued in Argentina. A 100% reimbursement for the fare will be provided, subject to a monthly cap of 10,000 pesos. It is crucial to note that this initiative is not funded by taxpayers. The reimbursement will be processed between 20 and 30 days after the transaction. To access the benefit, users must link their VISA card to a digital wallet with NFC technology (such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, or MODO Contactless). Payment is made by holding the smartphone near the reader without physical contact. This measure was enabled by system modernization, the introduction of multiple payment options, and deregulation by the national government. "When there is freedom and more competition, the ones who always benefit are the users," Macri stated. The offer is valid until December 31, 2025.
